What has helped Realme being innovative enough to beat Xiaomi in 2019?

You may have been surprised to see Realme beating Xiaomi in 2019 to rise as the smartphone brand of the year in 2019. What have been the factors that helped a brand that was launched in India 2 years before gain so much popularity?

While Xiaomi is busy expanding its lead over Samsung in the Indian smartphone market, a new competitor has slowly risen to pose a threat to its crown.

It is Realme, a brand that was launched in India in 2018 (being an Oppo sub-brand but later started operating as an independent entity). The brand now commands an incredible 16% market share in 2019 from being 0.1% in 2018.

Upcoming 5G Phones

The good news is that Realme is soon going to launch it’s 5G smartphone in Indian market. The upcoming 5G phones of realme will be Realme X50 Pro. The date declared for this smartphone is 24th of February 2020 and it also has been declared that like Xiaomi, it will be sold out through an online-only event. The one more thing about it is that it’s going to be the second flagship phone from the brand Realme.

On the other hand, Xiaomi will launch back to back it’s two 5G handsets: Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro and Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro. The brand model Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro will be launched in the month of February while another Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro has been decided to launch in March 2019.

While Xiaomi still dominates the Indian market with a market share close to 28%, Realme has piped it when it comes to handset shipment volume. Realme has shipped about 7.1 million devices, a rise of 401.3% when compared to the same period in 2018.

The reasons behind Realme turnaround are aplenty such as:

  • Launching most innovative devices at the lowest prices – Realme C2 and most recently, Realme C3 is the latest one. Xiaomi had to launch its Redmi 8A Dual to sustain the launch of Realme C3 recently.
  • Launching smartphones under 20000 with advanced features – The launch of quality smartphones under 20000 such as Realme 5 Pro, Realme X, Realme X2 and Realme X2 Pro helped its cover the product lines of Xiaomi.
  • Chasing Xiaomi on pricing and features – Realme is chasing Xiaomi and positioning its models in India with features and pricings similar.

They are soon going to lock horns in financial, Smart TV, IoT and fitness brands in 2020.
