How to Create an Incredible 6 Monitor Setup for Day Trading

Are you thinking of assembling a 6 monitor setup for day trading? Most day traders prefer trading using multiple monitors so they can easily check their indicators without switching from one tab to another. All the critical information they need for trading is laid out in front of them.

Having a 6 monitor setup makes a big difference when it comes to how trades can be executed. You’ll be able to monitor the performance of stocks faster and easier. As you might know, prices for stocks change every second, so it’s important to execute those trades fast.

It’s easy to think that multiple monitor setups are difficult to put together. That’s not true. Even if you don’t have an IT background, you can still successfully put together a 6 monitor setup suitable for your needs.

Guide to a 6 Monitor Setup for Laptops

Are you mainly using a laptop? Many people prefer using laptops over desktops because of their portability. You can bring your laptops everywhere, even when traveling. It dispenses the need to maintain two computers for your trading.

It’s also easy to set up a multiple monitor trading computer using a laptop. You just need to hook up your laptop to multiple monitors using the video output port. There are also some monitors that can be connected through WiFi with the use of applications like Miracast.

Check your laptop if it comes with discrete graphics such as a 3D GPU. This will enable connectivity to more monitors because of its multiple video output. If your laptop has a Thunderbolt 3 port, you can also benefit from its capability of connecting to monitors with 4K displays.

Here are all your options when it comes to creating a multi monitor setup for laptops:

1.       Connecting HDMI and VGA ports

If your laptop is an older model, it might only come with HDMI and VGA ports. Each laptop with these ports can connect to up to 2 monitors.

2.       Connecting USB and VGA ports

For those with laptops that only come with a VGA port, fret not. Just get yourself a USB port to connect more monitors.

3.       Connect to HDMI Ports

Check to see if your laptop comes with HDMI ports or at least a Mini DisplayPort. This will readily connect you to more monitors. Connect one monitor to each port. For those that only have a Mini DisplayPort, get yourself a splitter hub for DisplayPorts and use that to connect to multiple monitors.

4.       Connecting to Thunderbolt 3

The latest models of laptops come with Thunderbolt ports, also known as USB Type-C ports. Use an adapter capable and connect your laptop to another monitor. As mentioned earlier, this type of port is capable of supporting high resolution monitors such as 4K UHD monitors.

5.       Using a docking station

A docking station extends your laptop’s capability. One docking station is capable of connecting to two monitors.

Alternatively, you can use video docks. You can connect them to your laptop using either USB-C or USB 3.0 that will enable you to connect up to 3 monitors for each video dock.

It’s also possible to DIY your connectivity setup. Try building an External Graphics Box. That’ll make your laptops more capable of connecting to multiple monitors.

Guide to a 6 Monitor Setup for Desktops

Here are some ways to connect your desktop to multiple monitors:

1.       Use of DVI and VGA ports

Just like laptops, desktops can also come with VGA and DVI outputs. With the existing ports on your desktop, you can connect up to two monitors. However, you can add a USB or a DVI video card if you want to hook up more monitors.

2.       Connecting with the help of Multiple Graphics Cards

You can get three basic outputs using a standard graphics card. You should have HDMI, DVI and VGA output. With this card and these outputs, you can connect your desktop to up to three monitors.

Try upgrading the graphics card to allow for more monitors to be connected. But make sure you check your PC to see if there’s still an available slot for another graphics card. Adding more graphics cards will allow your desktop computer to accommodate a 6 monitor setup or more.

3.       Get a Multi Head Graphics Card

This will allow you to connect more than 6 monitors. You can go as high as an 8 monitor setup with this card. It costs an arm and a leg but for serious traders who want the best 6 monitor setup, this can be a great investment.

Ways to Add More Monitors to Your Trading Setup

Here are some additional things that you can do to create a 6 monitor setup:

1.       Use a DisplayPort Splitter

If your DisplayPort output is not capable of supporting a lot of monitors, use a DisplayPort Splitter. Depending on your computer, it’s capable of supporting up to 4 times more monitors.

2.       Use USB video graphics adapters

Add more monitors without worrying about the ports that your computer has. The caveat to this method is that it’ll only support monitors with a maximum of 1920 x 1080 p resolution. It should still be a good 6 monitor setup. Full HD capacity will still give you a clear and crisp resolution.

3.       Use a portable LED Monitor.

With its built-in video card, you can hook it up to an existing USB 3.0 port. You can use this for both desktop and laptop. It’s very simple to set up as well.

Additional Things You Might Need

Obviously, you need your monitors to create an incredible 6 monitor setup. Make sure they’re VESPA compliant and they come with at least one DVI or VGA input.

Additionally, you should get a multi-monitor stand. The one that can support 6 monitors is good but you can go with two stands that can accommodate three monitors if you would like a pyramid configuration for your monitors.

Just make sure you get high-quality devices and connectors for the seamless arrangement of your 6 monitor setup.
